Valentine’s Day Special!

Hello guys! Probably most of us got on the wrong foot here. So, how about we restart our tale on this day of love?

To start with, the reason for me not directly starting off with Chapters 83 and plus is because I wanted to understand the story and what is happening as that would lead to a good translation and a wonderful reading experience for you guys. Since so many of you readers really wanted to read ahead in the story, I went ahead and translated Chapters 83 and 84 of Book 1 for you. Now, time for some observations. There were a lot of new names that I encountered while translating and it took me some time going back and forth to figure out who is who and recognize the context. You might not think that it would be important but it is. Let me give you some examples and preach a little bit of history here.

There were “Three Ducal Ministers” in ancient China who held the positions of the highest officials in the country.
They were, (Zhou dynasty here)
1. Grand Preceptor
2. Grand Tutor
3. Grand Protector

Now, even if I jumbled each of these positions for any person in the story, it wouldn’t matter much to you but, it does to me (and maybe the Author). As you guys know, Li Sheng is the Grand Preceptor. Now, the character used for “Preceptor” is, 师. This character could also be interpreted as “Tutor” but, in this scenario of “Official Titles” the character officially used for “Tutor” is 傅. If I just read the story, I will surely miss out on these finer details. There might be even mistakes like 君莫邪 being translated as Jun Moye instead of Jun Mo Xie or 李尚 as Li Sang instead of Li Shang; interestingly enough which is actually how Google Translate interprets it.

These are just superficial inconsistencies which bear no impact on the plot but there might be other mistakes which might happen to spoil the plot. The reason for me wanting to go slow at first is to make sure that I’ll be able to keep up with the load and not just drop the project out of fatigue. And thanks for those guys who have continuously motivated me and shown support, it has really kept me going!

Anyway, on this wonderful day of love, let’s spread some joy around! Hope you guys have some fun reading these two chapters right after where podao001 left off! Additionally, I will also start to post new chapters too each week. I’ve not thought about an exact schedule yet but, they will surely come out. Now, read these up, go out on dates, have some chocolates, buy flowers have an enjoyable and crazy day!

  2. bro take ur time do your thing. People either need to man the fuck up and learn chinese or wait for the TLer to go through his/her own process. It’s either you wait or it never happens. It’s not even a choice really.

  3. I don’t blame you for wanting to translate this from the beginning, Not just for the reasons you have here but also because each translation is always different in that how each translator “sees” the word in both languages can be different. For example the various translations of “Sun zu’s the art of war”, in one copy I read they had a paper printed after the translation state that even in China this book is a translation from the ancient language to the modern language and even China’s top scholars argue over how to translate the work in to the modern language. I know personally I prefer more translations as one can catch a meaning that someone else may miss. Though I am waiting for you to hit chapter 40 (the half way point of what had been translated) before reading your version, first to see if you continue or stop and second to reread this work with your translation so it would be “fresh” for me. So good luck with this, and I will at least read your versions of 84 and 85 to finish the arc, though when you get to that point again in your work I would not be surprised to see you edit it with the incites you have gained from the earlier work.

  4. Thanks for taking up the translation from this chapter. I am getting confused too. Nevertheless, thank you for taking up our suggestions. Appreciate it.

  5. Heyyy, I’ve been following this series until the previous translator decided to drop it. Personally, I will not be re-reading OEM until you’ve translated up to the most recent chapter, but I just want to say that you’re doing a great job, just take your time. Slow and steady wins the race! The translation quality is pretty decent, and I rather read a slow but well done translation instead of a quick fix, so keep up the good work!

  6. Thanks for picking OEM. I’ll counting on the good translation from you!!
Anyway I design to wait until you translate up to the latest chapter before I reread it again. Hope it gonna be soon.
Lastly please do not drop OEM!! 🙂

  7. Just keep doing what you want at your own pace. Just don’t expect much on donations coming in till you reach chapter 85+. It will be a long long long wait.

  8. Take your time, there will always be people out there to support your choices, just like there will always be leechers out there who’ll find something to be unhappy about. 🙂

    Thanks for all your work!

    1. People would donate Much MUCH more if he were to pick start at 85 and not at the beginning , WE have READ the beginning , NO ONE wants to read from the start(lets face it, its a fact…) even if you think its better to start from the beginning it will just turn the bigger part of donations that could be going to the translator away. IN other words he is not only losing money, he is also losing readers :/ sad but true

      1. Well, he didn’t care much about donations to begin with, he just wanted to start translating from the beginning. He was compelled to introduce that system because of whiners who wanted him to translate from 83+ onwards. And that is clearly abnormal that someone who’s volunteering to work on a project ends up being forced change his plans because of leechers. Moreover, those leechers keep finding things to reproach him afterward and complain. That’s downright disrespectful and rude. If I were him, I wouldn’t care shit about those “lost” readers.

        1. those ‘lost’ readers account for the majority of donations.. just read the comments, most commentors are saying the same thing no donations until its up to speed which will take a couple months, yeah i understand the translators feelings regarding it but the fact remains that if you have a road that is already partially built, its smarter and more cost efficient to continue building that road than to build a brand new road from scratch(Especially since Dao’s translation quality was good)

I am not trying to be a jackass, I understand the translators point of view, but it Will cost him if he decides to do it this way…

          1. It would cost him nothing if he didn’t expect donations to begin with. He didn’t plan to open donations for the chapters 1 to 83. He only opened donations for 83+ which wasn’t his plan in the beginning.

            1. it cost READERS you twat, more than half of the people wont bother reading it again.
just because you are braindead follower doesnt mean the rest are.

              1. Even if those people don’t bother, new readers will show up. Even if you’re stuck up on your views instead of acknowledging the preferences of the guy who’s doing all the work, don’t bring up nonsensical arguments and find yourself another translator. “You twat”.
